Watch Party!

Image
HOME   🍿🦉 “Watch Party” They've got  Snewz  right where they want him, but is that exactly where he DESERVES to be?  If there's something Snewz wants to say -- now's the time to speak up!    Turns out the slithery snoozer wasn’t so sinister after all—he just wanted to catch the late-night flick! 🎥😄 Now, with snacks in tow,  Vic, Fritz the Owl, and their former foe cozy up -- it’s movie time ! 🛋️✨ Who knew a monster-sized misunderstanding could lead to the perfect watch party ? 🤝 A happy ending?!  Betcha didn't see that coming!  You've seen Snewz in two adventures now, how well do you think you could DRAW him?  Here are some tips to help you try: HOW 2 DRAW SNEWZ: 1.) Think of his body like a flat ribbon.  It can fold and twist, and can stretch to be as BIG as you want! 2.) The key shape for Snewz is a RECTANGLE.  Overlap them to show his size and the way his body coils. 3.) He has FOUR (4) eyes -- there's an invis...

Sound the Alarm!

Image
HOME   🦉💤 “Sound the Alarm!” Fritz the Owl  may be in over his feathers, but Vic may have one final trick up his sleeve!  👀 Don’t sleep on this thrilling installment of “Any Which Way But Snewz!” Any Which Way but Snewz (part 4)  A surprise wake-up call turns the tables! ⏰ But was it luck or a hidden weakness that sent the slithery Snewz slinking away? 🤔 One thing’s for sure— Vic’s timing is anything but alarm-ing! 🎉 You might notice that not a lot of details went into designing the BACKGROUND.  While it does help the reader have an understanding of the environment a story takes place in, it can be a clever shortcut to skip drawing the same background elements over and over -- especially if the location doesn't change.  This can be a GREAT way to manage how much time you spend on your artwork.  Remember, if it doesn't affect the story, it may not be worth drawing! Q&A: Sometimes, we use shortcuts because we're avoiding something diff...

Sleepy Showdown: Heavy Eyes and Heavy Heart!

Image
HOME   Vic is gassed —but he’s not out yet! Will Vic fight off the ZZZs, or is an early bedtime  inevitable ? Read on for the next part of  "Any Which Way But Snewz!"  💤👀✨ Any Which Way But Snewz (pt. 3) He’s trying everything to shake off the sleepiness…  Running in place! Jumping jacks! Handstands! Push-ups!  But no matter what he does, Snewz’s sleepy spell is just too strong. And now that Fritz has been  captured ... things aren’t looking good. Could this be the end of movie night?! 😱💤 This strip is packed with action— 10 panels in total!  The long rectangle shape helped me pace the story, making sure each moment flowed smoothly to the next. I  really  liked working with the  smaller panels —it was a fun challenge to fit all the action while keeping everything clear and exciting! Q&A: What's a movie YOU would fight sleep to stay up and watch?  How many times have you seen it already? It's not over YET!  ...

Lights. Camera. SNEWZ!

Image
HOME   Uh-oh! Vic's got a tummy ache—but that’s the least of his worries! Something spooky is creeping in, and if he’s not careful, this movie night might just turn into nap time ! Will he make it to the big show, or is this a film that will end up watching him instead? Any Which Way But Snewz (pt. 2)  When I made this comic strip, I used  a mix of traditional drawing and digital tools —kind of like combining crayons and computer magic! First, I sketched tiny rough drawings (called  layouts ) with a regular ink pen to figure out how everything would fit. Then, I grabbed  big sheets of thick paper  (11x17" cover stock—it’s super sturdy!) and went to work with pencils and markers. After that, I used  Adobe Illustrator  on my computer to add all the words! Each strip took about  a day to finish  from start to end—not too long, but just enough time to make it  awesome ! My favorite part of this page? The  sleeping gas eff...

Snewz You Lose! The Sleep Monster's First BIG Adventure

Image
HOME   Snewz You Lose! The Sleep Monster’s First Big Adventure Hey there, comic fans! Did you think the fun was over? No way! I just needed a few days to figure out the perfect thing to share next—so get ready, because this one’s extra special! Before Snewz started causing bedtime trouble in Beware the Kid Napper , I actually introduced him in a five-part comic strip called "Any Which Way But Snewz" ! It ran in the Columbus Alive newspaper, and guess what? I didn’t just write the story—I drew it too! Any Which Way But Snewz pt. 1 I first got into comics because I loved drawing. I practiced for years, but along the way, I realized I loved writing even more! Still, every once in a while, I get the urge to pick up my pencil and bring a story to life with my own artwork. That’s exactly what happened with this series! The story was inspired by my love of staying up late to watch movies. When I was a kid, there was a TV host named  Fritz the Nite Owl —he was a real pers...
